Making a move

Hello all,

We are very excited to report we are making a move!!!! Our original location has been great but has become too small for us. So, we are making a move to #1-41340 Government Road right next to the Bean Around the world. We have been working hard to get the space ready and have gone as far as we can without pulling apart the current store. We will be closed until further notice and are shooting to be open in the middle of this week.

There will be a message sent out through Facebook and posted here when we are ready to have you for a visit at our new store.

Thanks for the support,

Armand Hurford

New kit in the house!

Lots of good news coming your way in the next weeks. For now, come check out Republic’s 2010 jersey AND BIBS made by Louis Garneau!

Road bikes skills session tonight

We all seem to agree that riding  in group it’s a lot of fun because it’s efficient and social!  There are certain skills that can help your confidence. Tonight we’e going to work on those! Leaving from the shop at 6pm, we’re offering whoever may be interested a free skill session working on cornering and descending. It will be about an hour/hour and half of playing with the bikes, oriented by Armand Hurford.

Fresh meat!!!

We just built up a few new bikes from Commencal. Checkout the slide show for a few pics and their website for complete info.

The Dude rolls again!

As you may know our very own Dude aka Kelly Servinski crushed it last week at the test of metal, piloting his Scott Spark to 8th overall and top local. Some would say this result would earn some time off…not the Dude! The Dude always rolls! BC Bike Race is underway and the Dude is rolling with Dwayne Kress flying the flag for all of us in Squamish.

Stay up to date with the action here:

If you are not sure what I’m ranting about….check here.

Squamish is hosting Day 6 on Friday and I really think as many people as can swing it should figure out a way to check it out. Even just seeing the camp setup on Thursday night is very cool. Next year we need more teams from Squamish showing the world how to shred single track!

Give ‘er Dude!!!!

Newness Newness Newness Newness!

There is a lot of new things going on around the Republic these days. If you are reading this then you have found our new website! This space will be a constantly changing space to keep you up to date with the happenings in the Republic. There are links to our Twitter feed and our Facebook group over on the left. Joining either or both of these is the best way to keep up to date with what’s happening or just stop past here and see what’s new.

Oh, and stopping in the shop to say hi also works quite well.

Happy trails, long live the Republic!!!!!

Fresh details on Saturday group ride

This saturday,  we’re meeting at the Bean Around the World (3-41340 Government Rd.)  at 9am for our group ride…grab a java and roll maybe at 9:15 to 9:30.
We can see what the group wants to do and go from there. Perhaps split up into a couple of groups depending on who shows up and what kind of ride people are looking for.
The weather looks great – come on out!
By the way, Armand has got two Scott demo bikes that will be available for test rides for the next little while…one is Spark 35 and the other is a Genius 30 – both size medium. Contact Armand to set up a test ride on one of these things, as well we are going to have them available for two lucky people to race them at the Toonie xc next week…more details to come later today!

Ciao,

Kelly Servinski

SUMMERRRR!

Next monday is a holiday in celebration of  Queen Victoria’s birthday, but is also known as the informal mark of summer, which essentially means that you can ride your bike to almost 10pm  without needing any lights! Yeah, after work rides!

Well, at the Republic we found that this a huge reason to celebrate. Therefore, the shop will be closed and we hope to meet you out in the trails!

Happy Birthday, Victoria!

Happy trails Republic Nation!

Heads up!

This is the time of year we get the most riders riding one loop in Squamish. That’s right folks the Test of Metal  is fast approaching. Please read the info below as it will affect your Test of Metal pre-ride. If you are looking for other, more fun, loops to ride stop by the shop.

Happy trails,

Armand

“Hello Everyone

I want to inform you that we have to close the Carpenter’s Son Bridge effective immediately.
The reason for the closure is the bridge has deteriorated substantially in the last few days.
We are slated to begin construction of the new bridge on Monday June 01, 2010. This area will be a construction area and not open to the public.
Please follow this closure and plan accordingly to avoid this area and use alternate routes for example continue up Ring Creek FSR to access Darwin’s Crossing and the Power House Plunge Trail.

We understand that with the upcoming Test Of Metal Mountain Bike Race there will be a substantial amount of riders hoping to pre-ride the entire route this weekend however this decision has been made with the public safety in mind and are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Thank you

Todd Pope
Trails Coordinator
District of Squamish”

Yes, it’s all about THE TEST!

Celebrations!

Today we’re celebrating our first month of  new website!  Of course, as you might have noticed, we’re still trying to figure it out and having a hard time keeping up with ourselves,  not just giving you up to date information but also precious ahead of time tips. That way, we can all keep our heads up in the issues and deals going around The Republic and its surroundings.

In the middle of our hustle between reality and virtual world, we sponsored a Toonie Race together with the Red Bench Diner and if you were here, you can agree with us that was a “gooder”. In despite of the many reported crashes due to the wet weather, no riders had any major injuries (scratches and bruises are a part of the sport) and the party (click for pictures, dummy!) was filled with good food and a lot (i said a lot) of beer and yes, a fire and good people.  Oh yeah, the race was won by Greg Day, with 00:44:30 and Kelly and his Scott got second AGAIN with 00:45:21. Way to go, Kelly! You can check the full results here.

Speaking of winners and not so much, we got four Scott s for test rides. The models are Genius 30 (medium), Genius 20 (Large), Spark 35 (medium), Spark 30 (large).  We’re happy to let you test ride them on your favourite trail! We’re  looking forward to hear some more  feedback !

Just one week for the Test of Metal (better start training!)! Life in Squamish isn’t bad at all, is it?!

And, of course, we’re also excited about the world cup, that minor sport event. We’re all Brazilians until the tournament ends! Putz!

Cheers,

Leah ;)

Toonie Pictures

I happened to get a hold of the pictures taken by Neal Kindree (Thanks, Neal!), and here I come to share them with you.  Hopefully they will inspire a few of you that are still not excited for the TEST.

4 days until the Test. See you there.

Leah

Life after the Test…

 (…I heard it hurts!)

What a crazy busy weekend is the one of The Test! Bike races (for all ages!), bag pipes, baseball, live music…Everything happening at once! Well, we survived and had a blast! It was great to, once more, see all the community – with volunteers, support crews, enthusiasts and, of course, riders! –  envolved in the sport we love!

The rider of the Republic, Kelly Servinski, was 8th overall and 1st male Squamolian! We could not be prouder! Congratulations Kelly!  Now, Kelly is going to race the BC Bike Race teamed up with Dwayne Kress (Test of Metal ’10 – 10th overall), as TEAM SQUAMISH!

Because there is life after the Test, we’re looking forward to the Gear Jammer, but until then, if you have a road bike, maybe you should get out with us today and pedal for a bit, rolling @6pm from the shop.
